Robyn - Dancing on my Own

My wife and I were hanging out at the food court at the Mall of GA waiting to get in to see the new TRON Legacy movie in IMAX 3D, which happened to be AWESOME!!!

There were several TV monitors around the food court playing the latest music videos. I noticed one in particular, which I thought was Pink with a new look, but it wasn't. It was Robyn. Could not really hear the music over the food court noise, so I look her up yesterday and today, and I really liked that song in the video.

Looks like I missed her show and there are no other ATL shows scheduled for 2011 that I can see. Bummer. Well there is always Youtube.

Masiluku Dub - Mark Ernestus vs. Konono No.1

Looks like Konono No.1 is vintage enough to be getting remixed:

Very interesting indeed.

While browsing the above video, I found some dudes that are just as eccentric as I am...

I think I will go ahead and finish transcribing the phonetic lyrics to some of these songs, and do a complete video. It will be weird, and not everyone's cup of tea, but it will be unique and it will be a form of expression that is ultimately my own.

Ke$ha - We R Who We R

WOW... just WOW...

Most definitely a guilty pleasure.

Raise Your Glass and Firework

Vacationing at the Hotel Arturo (Mom's house), where cable television is among one of the many amenities. So I have been getting exposed to stuff I don't actively look for such as Top 40 pop music on the VH1 or MTV, or whatever...

Apparently, right now Pink and Katy Perry are on fire with "Raise your glass"and "Firework".

Both are feel-good anthems that celebrate personal uniqueness. Maybe this will be the new thing for the next few years... until it just becomes a cliche like everything else that gets over-exposed. But for now, we can enjoy it for a little while, and be glad for Pink and Katy that they are having success in their careers.

Soul Train!!! The Sound of Philidelphia Afrosheen

Saw a Soul Train documentary on VH1 Classics and heard the Soul Train Theme, which was released as "The Sound of Philidelphia"

Now during the Soul Train broadcasts, they would show Afro-centric commercials such as this one:

Can you dig it?!?

Tron Bonne vs. Roll Caskett vs. Little Wing Solfege Overture

Some things I find just leave me speechless.

Some things I just say WTF is that:

Either way, a major part of my music appreciation came from playing early video games. So it would be natural that this would appeal to me.

More of this stuff... there is tons of it:

Heir ou demain - Sergei Gainsbourg

What can we say? There is a whole catalogue of music that has not touched our ears. But thanks to the magic of the Internet...

Gloria Gaynor - I am what I am

I am sick today, so I have been watching movies on Netflix. Just saw "Kiss me Guido" and this song was in the closing credits.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj8C43r4zm0

I love these low-budget indie comedies because they always play cool soundtracks throughout the movie. And you can find some real gems in there if you keep your ear open.

For example, "Night Visitor" from Rupert Hitzig (1989) has a John Leffler song "This is the Love" in the closing scene and credits. It's hard to find any information about it online.

But anyway, I have some time and nothing much to do so I will keep watching, and listening.

CAN - Paperhouse

I found this group while listening to Headless Heroes "See My Love". This funky video was in the youtube mix for HHs. At first, I thought, that is an ugly lead singer... and what is he doing with a bunch of shirt-less hippies in an early 70s BlackSabbath/Deep Purple style video with the psychedelic background???

But at 2:52... they start cookin'!!!

Next night, I cranked the video the living room setup and realized how intricate this song really is. These musicians all had classical training. Anyway, I am finding other songs by them and find them amazingly intriguing.

Alela Diane and the Headless Heroes

Heard this song on WREK 90.5 FM on my way to the Daycare facility to deliver a Crystal Castles arcade game that I just fixed up.

It is "See my Love" by Headless Heroes. Lead singer is Alela Diane, who's voice is absolutely haunting.

Reminded me of Annie Haslam
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annie_Haslam
whom I first heard on the college radio station while driving on E. Ponce. way back circa 1997. It was a Renaisance song, so I did some research... well music research back then consisted of going to the record store or the Goodwill and looking through the vinyls LPs. I eventually found several Reneisance albums, and also got a chance to see Annie at the Variety Playhouse. I took Talia with my on that excursion, and got Annie to sign my Novela LP.

Arturo's Music Blog

Welcome.

I am starting this Blog to keep up with the new artists that I am discovering everyday through the many types of media available today.

I will include old favorites, as well as newly discovered favorites. I will also try to give a little information about each one.

Hope you enjoy.
